Famous investor O'Leary: Powell will not lower interest rates
Kevin O'Leary, a Canadian celebrity investor and a person regularly consulted by financial media for his comments, stated that he expects an unfavorable speech regarding interest rate rebates from Fed Chairman Powell on Friday.
"There isn't even a suitable environment"
The businessman speaking to Fox Business from the US media stated that the environment is not suitable for interest rate rebates and said the following:
"Currently, stocks, risky assets, and crypto are running from peak to peak. The economy outside of California is doing very well... It's almost soaring. Even despite these interest rates... If you were to implement a rebate here, prices would soar even more. Then what are we striving for? For this reason, I believe that there isn't even a suitable environment for a rebate."
"Powell wouldn't even care"
O’Leary, stating that even if the Fed lowers interest rates, it will be at most 25 basis points, but in his opinion, he believes there will be no rate cuts, made the following comment:
"Look, all the gears of the machine are working hard. If done, there will be at most a 25 basis point rebate, but I don't think that will happen either. Powell might also make a surprise speech. He might say, 'The data is coming in hot, everything is going well. I know I will be leaving soon, but I don't even care.' Even if he knows he will get a reaction from the market, Powell wouldn't care at all."
