Tether CTO Paolo Ardoino: We want to become the world's largest Bitcoin Miner

Tether's CTO Paolo Ardoino recently revealed a series of the company's latest strategic moves on the Bankless podcast. He stated that Tether expects to become the world's largest Bitcoin miner by the end of this year.

Ardoino stated: "Tether is expected to become the largest Bitcoin miner in the world by the end of this year." He explained that this move is not only for economic gain but also to support the long-term security of the Bitcoin network. "When block rewards approach zero, on-chain transaction fees will significantly increase. This will be a natural evolutionary path for the continuous operation of the Bitcoin network."

In addition to Bitcoin mining, Ardoino also revealed Tether's investment layout in various fields, including agriculture, energy, and biotechnology. He specifically mentioned that Tether acquired Adecoagro, one of the largest landowners in South America. "Land itself is a scarce and secure asset with long-term appreciation potential," Ardoino explained, "We believe agriculture is also part of commodity trading, which can be combined with the use of stablecoins in the commodity trading field that we mentioned earlier."

When discussing Tether's profitability, Ardoino revealed that the company generated a profit of 13.7 billion dollars last year, and it may be even higher this year. He emphasized that Tether currently holds more than 125 billion dollars in U.S. Treasury bonds, making it the fifth largest buyer of U.S. debt.

Regarding the recently passed GENIUS Act stablecoin bill in the United States, Ardoino expressed welcome and believes it will provide much-needed clarity for the entire industry. He anticipates that this bill may serve as a template for other countries around the world to follow.

Ardoino also revealed that Tether is developing an SDK called WDKS (Wallet Development Kit for Smart agents), which is a completely open-source wallet development toolkit. He envisions that in the future, every smart device should have its own non-custodial wallet.

Finally, Ardoino emphasized the importance of Tether to the United States: "We are actually promoting the expansion of dollar hegemony. While China and other BRICS nations are trying to weaken the dollar's dominance, we are promoting the dollar around the world."
