What is the Elliott wave theory? Elliott wave theory, developed by Ralph Nelson Elliott in the 1930s, suggests that the market moves in a predictable pattern of five waves in an upward market. These waves reflect the general psychology of traders and investors: Wave 1: A modest upward movement, signaling the beginning of a trend. Wave 2: Correction phase, retreating from the initial excitement. Wave 3: The strongest and most explosive price increase, driven by widespread recognition of this trend. Wave 4: A more gentle retreat as the market consolidates. Wave 5: The final price increase, often marked by enthusiasm and speculation, but with diminishing profits compared to Wave 3. When the five-wave cycle ends, the market often enters the ABC correction phase, bringing about a more significant decline or market downturn. Where are we now? On the monthly chart from 2022 to 2025, we can see signs of this pattern unfolding. The cryptocurrency market has undergone: A modest price increase in early 2023 (Wave 1). A notable retreat at the end of that year (Wave 2). An explosive price increase in 2024, when Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies soar to new heights (Wave 3). A consolidation phase, possibly occurring at the end of 2024 (Wave 4). Now, at the beginning of 2025, we can witness the final wave 5, characterized by new enthusiasm but less momentum than the price increase of wave 3. This phase often coincides with speculation and overconfidence in the market, which may signal the start of a larger correction wave. The importance of patience Don't jump to conclusions. Although Wave 5 may push prices higher, we still don't know its full extent. Historical data shows that markets often take time to reveal their trends. From what we know, the peak in December 2024 may have marked the end of Wave 5. What happens next? If we see a significant retreat, this could create a 'second chance' recovery or a self-satisfied recovery - a temporary recovery before the market enters the ABC adjustment phase. During this time, the important thing is: Observing the chart: Watch for signs of a major downturn. Managing expectations: The correction phase could be significant, especially after a prolonged bull market. Preparing for opportunities: Corrections often create excellent buying opportunities for long-term investors. What will be the future of cryptocurrency in 2025? The Elliott Wave Theory provides us with a framework, but no one can predict the future with certainty. What we know is that the cryptocurrency market is still dynamic, shaped by macroeconomic trends, legal developments, and innovation.
