Mr. Trump Speaks Out About Elon Musk's Dispute
On January 23, President Donald Trump expressed indifference to the heated debate between two tech CEOs Elon Musk and Sam Altman, according to CNN. Specifically, during a press conference on January 23, Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House that Musk's comment was simply the result of a personal conflict stemming from the billionaire's dislike for one of the people involved in the project, rather than a criticism of the feasibility of the agreement. "Musk hates one of them. I have spoken to Musk and all of them. The people in this project are very smart, but Musk hates one of them. I also have a few people like that," Trump said, referring to Altman. Previously, a joint venture called Stargate, led by OpenAI - the developer of ChatGPT, and global technology investment group SoftBank Group, committed to investing $500 billion in building artificial intelligence infrastructure (AI) in the US. However, Elon Musk asserts that Stargate, led by OpenAI, does not have the amount of money they claim. "They really don't have that money. SoftBank has only secured less than $10 billion. I know this from a reliable source," Tesla's CEO wrote on his personal X. A few hours later, in response to a post criticizing Altman, Musk even described the CEO of OpenAI as a "scammer". Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is also not standing outside. He directly refuted on social network X: "Wrong, and you know that. Want to come and see if the first location has been started? This is a great step for the country. I understand what is good for the nation is not always favorable to your companies, but I hope you will prioritize the United States". An internal source from Stargate has spoken out to refute Musk's statement. According to this source, SoftBank currently has 24.3 billion USD in cash and is ready to borrow more for investment. MGX has raised $100 billion in committed capital, Oracle owns $11 billion in cash, and OpenAI recently raised over $10 billion from funding rounds. Musk's criticisms mark a prominent move from within the inner circle of the Trump administration. Notably, just a few days ago, Musk appeared in the Oval Office to witness President Trump sign a pardon for Ross William Ulbricht - the founder of the online black market SilkRoad. He even sent employees from SpaceX and X to assist in the release of some of those convicted in the January 6th riot.
